Why Choose A Conservator?
Conservators are trained to use materials and techniques that will not damage your object now or in the future. Conservators are bound by a code of ethics that ensures the long term well being of the object and preserves as much of the original material and appearance as possible.
Why Should I Choose a Member of NZCCM?
NZCCM is the New Zealand Conservators of Cultural Materials. By choosing one of its full members you are ensuring that the conservator has attained a certain level of training and experience in Conservation as well as the desire to comply with the code of ethics for treating historic artefacts.
What Types of Artifacts Do You Treat?
We treat almost all types of three dimensional objects from archaeological items through to modern sculpture. Materials we commonly treat are stone, wood, silver, lead, tin, bronze, brass, iron, steel, lacquer, glass, plastic, leather, ceramic, plaster, linoleum, natural history specimens and bone.
We do not conserve textiles, works on paper, paintings on canvas or frames. Please refer to the NZCCM website for conservators with these skills. If you are not sure who to contact, get in touch and we will redirect you if required.
Where Do You Travel To?
Anywhere! As the objects we deal with are often very large and cannot be transported easily if is common for us to travel to them. Get in touch to find out a cost for us coming to you.
Do You Carry Out Valuations?
No. We do not advise on the value of objects. We suggest you contact your Regional Museum, as they may be able to direct you to a suitable company in your area who can carry this out for you.
Do You Provide Training?
Yes, we can provide training in handling objects; appropriate ways to clean and care for historic objects and sculptures as well as a number other areas. Please get in touch to discuss your specific needs.
